RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - People looking to learn what’s happening at the North Carolina legislature online are having trouble because the notice to extend use of its web domain name got mishandled.

The outage for the General Assembly’s web site - www.ncleg.net - was reported Tuesday morning. Information Systems Director Dennis McCarty said the domain’s license had expired after five years, and the vendor’s renewal notice got sent to the wrong person at the legislative complex in Raleigh.

McCarty says the domain registration was renewed in less than an hour but it would take time for the restoration to be complete for all users.

The legislature’s legacy domain name didn’t go down. That address is www.ncga.state.nc.us but it still had some problems because some applications depend on the other domain.
