ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Nearly 230 troopers are joining the ranks of the New York State Police now that they have completed their basic training.

The new troopers graduated Tuesday from the New York State Police Academy in Albany. Graduation ceremonies for the 202nd session of the state police Basic School were held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

The new troopers have been assigned to barracks across the state and will undergo 10 weeks of field training.

Trooper Shane Larkin of Saratoga Springs won the Academic Performance Award. Trooper Dominick Caito of Rochester won the Superintendent’s Firearms Proficiency Award, while Trooper Vladen Shkradyuk (VLAH’-dehn shrah-DOOK’) of Brooklyn is the winner of the Joseph T. Aversa Physical Training Award.

Trooper Brian Dipasquale of Red Hook has been chosen as the class representative.
