NEW YORK (AP) - A Bronx man who stabbed his girlfriend then stayed with her corpse for three days will spend 22 years to life in prison.

Dawn Monaco, a mother of three, was found dead in January 2012 after Stephen Bolt admitted the killing in several 911 calls.

According to District Attorney Robert Johnson, a note next to her body stated: “I always said I would kill you.”

Monaco’s brother said in court that he lost his best friend and confidante.

Bolt claimed he was intoxicated and under extreme emotional stress.

He was convicted of second-degree murder on Jan. 23 and sentenced on Monday.
