ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - A penguin art contest is taking place as part of an effort to welcome some of the Detroit Zoo’s new residents.

Comerica Bank and the Detroit Zoo launched the contest this week. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade may have their parents upload penguin artwork to the Comerica Cares Facebook page for a chance to win a $1,000 grant for their school.

The winner also gets a trip to the zoo in Royal Oak for their elementary school class to see the new gentoo penguins and participate in a special presentation from a penguin keeper. Entries are accepted through Feb 28.

The contest coincides with Comerica Bank’s $50,000 contribution for the zoo’s new $29.5 million Polk Penguin Conservation Center, which is scheduled to open in early 2016.
