ORANGE, Calif. (AP) - A 98-year-old philanthropist has sued California’s Chapman University alleging the school took advantage of his age to get him to donate $12 million for an engineering building.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1Ah0PId ) the suit filed by James and Catherine Emmi claims university officials put undue pressure on him to sign an irrevocable contract without the consent of his wife. It alleges breach of contract, fraud, deceit and elder abuse.

The Emmis want the school return the money.

Chapman officials vowed to fight the lawsuit, saying it mischaracterizes the Emmis’ interactions with the university.
