ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A drawdown of Cotile Lake will begin in September in an effort to stifle hydrilla, which has been spreading rapidly.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1KIhiX0 ) the Rapides Parish Police Jury on Monday authorized the drawdown, which was recommended last week by Ricky Moses, biologist manager for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Police Juror Richard Vanderlick, whose district includes Cotile Lake, located southwest of Boyce, will join Moses at a public meeting to explain the need for the Cotile Lake drawdown on Feb. 19.

Some lake drawdowns have upset property owners and lake users.

Vanderlick believes the public will understand the need for the Cotile Lake drawdown.
