RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting that involved law enforcement officers and a suspect they were chasing after he drove away from a traffic stop.

A statement from the SBI says 25-year-old Tyshaun Fields of Ayden was shot in the left leg following a car chase Tuesday involving Ayden police officers and Pitt County sheriff’s deputies.

According to the SBI, the chase ended when Fields drove into an apartment parking lot, where deputies fired at Fields’ vehicle. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Police said warrants have been taken out charging Fields with a number of offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and felony possession of a firearm by a felon. He was undergoing treatment at Vidant Hospital.
