ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - The trial date is now set for a man a man accused of fatally shooting a northeast Georgia police officer and wounding another.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1zFUHZe) that Western Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard scheduled June 1 for jury selection to begin in the trial of 37-year-old Jamie Hood who faces murder and other charges.

Jurors will be chosen from Elbert County and brought to the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse after prosecutors and defense lawyers expressed concerns about selecting an impartial jury locally.

Hood is accused in the death of 34-year-old Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Elmer “Buddy” Christian in 2011.

Hood will also be standing trial for the December 2010 shooting death of Kenneth Omari Wray after prosecutors successfully argued that both killings were linked.
