WEST LINN, Ore. (AP) - West Linn Mayor John Kovash resigned unexpectedly at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1M9r1sZ ) he grabbed a microphone at the end of the meeting and said, “I’m 74 years old. It’s time to retire.”

Kovash is a former corporate investment officer and retired Army colonel who has served as mayor nearly five years.

Kovash says he’ll serve until the end of the month, but he has presided over his last council meeting.
