MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Community leaders in three north-central West Virginia counties have formed a working group to combat drug addiction and overdoses.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld and other officials announced the project involving Monongalia, Marion and Harrison counties Monday. The working group includes community leaders from the law enforcement, education, health care and media professions. It will present an addiction action plan in the spring.

Ihlenfeld says heroin addiction has grown into “a true public health crisis.”
