BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Zachary man has been fined $5,000 and ordered to reimburse the state Department of Environmental Quality $970 for illegally dumping gasoline and diesel fuel behind a video poker casino in Port Allen.

DEQ officials said Monday that 58-year-old Leon Wallace pleaded guilty earlier this month to violating the state’s Environmental Quality Act.

Wallace was arrested in March 2013 when investigators found fuel-contaminated soil behind the Super Lucky Louie Casino.

Investigators received information that Wallace drove a tanker truck for ACM Transportation at the time of the incident and while loading fuel, he mixed diesel with gasoline already in the truck. To hide the mistake, he drove to the casino and dumped an unknown amount of the mixture behind the business.

The contaminated property has since been remediated.
