At least seven Mississippi counties are under burn bans because of continued dry and windy conditions.

WDAM-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1KQNiYX ) the Mississippi Forestry Commission issued a ban prohibiting outdoor burning for Jones County, effective immediately. Anyone found in violation of the ban could face citations from the county sheriff’s department.

The station (https://bit.ly/16YSiOf ) also reports the Wayne County Board of Supervisors issued a ban Thursday. Fire officials said it was needed to protect lives and property after several out-of-control grass fires, one of which destroyed a home a few days ago.

WLBT-TV (https://bit.ly/1zQ5Hn0 ) reports bans also are in effect in Hinds County through March 10; in Adams County until March 1; Franklin County until March 2; Warren County until March 10 and Lauderdale County until further notice.
