WELLFORD, S.C. (AP) - Spartanburg County officials have released the names of four people killed in a wreck on Interstate 85.

The coroner’s office said Thursday the victims were 21-year-old Martha Marie Diaz, 60-year-old Josh Leroy Smith, 22-year-old Shiree Lynette Whitaker and 27-year-old Edwin Ferguson. All of them lived in Spartanburg County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck involving five vehicles happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday near the 67 mile marker near Wellford. Cpl. Bill Rhyne said someone was driving south in a northbound lane of the highway, causing the wreck.

Rhyne said the wrong way driver was one of those who died in the wreck.

Several people were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The highway reopened Thursday morning.
