WACO, Texas (AP) - Some students at Baylor University have learned a lesson about freedom of the press.

School officials have revoked a ban ordered by a Student Court leader against the Baylor Lariat student newspaper.

Chief Justice Cody Coll last week banned the media from contacting him or other court members in a dispute about whether another student leader fulfilled her duties. Coll’s order says violators could be referred to the dean of judicial affairs for discipline.

The Waco Tribune-Herald (https://bit.ly/1A03zaZ ) reported Wednesday that Baylor authorities say the School Court, the judicial branch of Baylor Student Government, overstepped its authority.

Baylor spokesman Matt Burchett says the Student Court’s authority is limited to reviewing disputes between students and student groups. The Student Court can limit involved parties from speaking to the media.

Coll declined comment.
