BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 38-year-old man killed his 67-year-old mother and hid her body in an alcove of her Buffalo home.

Local media report that William Tyes was arrested this week and charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of Lenora Tyes.

Police were contacted last week when neighbors on her East Side street became concerned because they hadn’t seen her recently. Detectives searching her home on Tuesday found her body. They said she had died from blunt force trauma.

Her son, who lived with his mother, was tracked down at a house in another neighborhood later that night and arrested.

William Tyes is being held in the Erie County Jail. His lawyer couldn’t be contacted.

Tyes is a Level 2 sex offender who was convicted in 1996 of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl.
