RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Weekly flu deaths in North Carolina have fallen for the fifth straight week as health officials report six people died from symptoms in the latest reporting period.

From a high of 40 flu deaths in the first week in January, figures from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday showed last week’s deaths fell from 13 the week before.

The death toll for people aged 65 and older climbed to 137. Overall, 164 people have died from the flu in North Carolina for the season which began in October 2014.
