TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A 70-vehicle procession followed a 12-mile route through the city to a church for a funeral Mass for the mayor of Toledo, who died a week ago.

The Mass for D. Michael Collins on Thursday morning was led by Bishop Daniel Thomas at Rosary Cathedral in Toledo. It also included about two dozen priests.

Collins died last Friday, five days after suffering cardiac arrest while driving during a snowstorm. The 70-year-old was in his first term as mayor.

He spent nearly 30 years as a police officer in his hometown before going into politics.

The funeral motorcade passed by several favorite spots in the mayor’s life, including police headquarters and his favorite pastry shop. Mourners stood along the route in freezing weather to pay their respects.
