LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Gwinnett County police have arrested 16 people and seized drugs with a street value of about $2.5 million during an investigation that lasted several months.

Police say the narcotics unit began investigating after three suspected heroin overdose deaths in October. Police suspected the heroin in the three cases came from a single source and launched an undercover investigation.

Once they identified the suspected dealer, police say they realized they were dealing with a drug trafficking organization and broadened the investigation. The case was largely resolved this month.

Police seized about 5,900 grams of heroin, 530 grams of cocaine, 480 grams of marijuana, and 230 grams of methamphetamine. Police also seized 12 vehicles. Sixteen people have been arrested and most of them face drug trafficking charges.
