NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Police say a 59-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with 10 jewelry thefts at high-end Southern California stores.

The Orange County Register reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1A0cGIT) that Thu Thao Thi Vu faces multiple counts of commercial burglary. She was taken into custody Friday in Newport Beach.

Investigators say the Huntsville, Alabama, resident is suspected of working alone and using distraction techniques in the burglaries.

During extended visits to California, she is suspected of targeting malls and shopping centers in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, and San Bernardino counties

The value of the stolen items is estimated to be more than $47,000.

Vu is due in court Feb. 20. It’s not immediately known if she has a lawyer.
