MECHANICSVILLE, Iowa (AP) - Three people have been charged for their involvement in killing several cats with a pellet gun and a baseball bat at an eastern Iowa home.

KCRG-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1KTOknc ) 37-year-old Cory William Maschmann, of Stanwood, and two juveniles were charged Thursday in connection with the killings near a Mechanicsville home. Maschmann faces charges of aiding and abetting animal torture, criminal trespassing and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to a police report, Maschmann told police that he brought the two juveniles to the home and instructed them to kill the cats. Officers later found four dead cats in a nearby creek, and the homeowner confirmed the cats belonged to her.

Court records do not list an attorney for Maschmann. The two minors will be referred to juvenile court.
