HONOLULU (AP) - Hanauma Bay beach is closed because of an influx of box jellyfish.

The Honolulu Department of Emergency Management says the popular east Oahu snorkeling spot closed Friday morning. Lifeguards are monitoring the situation to determine when it can reopen for snorkeling.

Only the beach portion of the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is closed. The city says visitors are still allowed to go to the upper area and enjoy the scenic views.
