CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities say a licensed chiropractor in suburban Chicago faces charges in connection with importing steroids from China and illegally distributing them to clients.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the charges Thursday against 43-year-old Gregory Zimmerman of Oswego.

Prosecutors say Zimmerman illegally imported steroid powders from China and distributed them to customers throughout the United States. He allegedly turned the powders into injectable liquids or oral capsules.

A criminal complaint naming Zimmerman was filed Feb. 4 in federal court and unsealed Tuesday. Zimmerman surrendered to authorities Monday and was released on a $25,000 bond. He’s charged with possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Attorney Terry LeFevour is representing Zimmerman. He tells The Associated Press he’s reviewing the charges and plans to “mount a vigorous defense.”
