DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit public bus driver has been charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection with a confrontation involving a female passenger.

Prosecutors say 56-year-old Roy Duane Bell could be arraigned Friday in Detroit’s 36th District Court on the misdemeanor charge.

A Wayne County sheriff’s deputy arrested Bell after witnessing the Feb. 3 incident on Detroit’s west side.

Sheriff’s officials have said the 21-year-old woman exchanged words with the driver after she and two other women were told to exit the bus so he could take his break.

Prosecutors say the woman was assaulted outside the bus.

Court records listing whether or not Bell has an attorney were not available.
