PASCO, Wash. (AP) - The family of a man who was killed this week in a police shooting in southwestern Washington has filed a $25 million claim for damages with the city of Pasco.

The Tri-City Herald reports (https://is.gd/48UFEA ) the claim was filed Friday by his widow and is also on behalf of Antonio Zambrano-Montes’ two daughters.

The claim says police used excessive force in violation of state and federal authority.

Zambrano-Montes’ widow is Teresa de Jesus Meraz of Atwater, Calif.

Yakima attorney George Paul Trejo Jr. is representing the family, along with Carrazco Law in Tustin, Calif.

A claim is a precursor to a lawsuit. The city has 60 days to respond to the claim.
