VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A fraternity at Virginia Wesleyan College has been closed because of allegations of hazing.

A spokeswoman for the private college in Virginia Beach told The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1F74bAj ) three members of Kappa Alpha Order has have been sanctioned, but remain students at the college.

The spokeswoman, Leona Baker, declined to discuss details of the alleged hazing or how many students were subjected to it.

Representatives from the fraternity’s national headquarters conducted an investigation this week and informed school officials the chapter would close immediately, according to an email sent to faculty, staff and students Thursday night.

The fraternity can return to Virginia Wesleyan and the school is expecting to receive a proposal for its return by month’s end, the email stated.
