JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for murder in a fatal 2014 shooting.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says in a news release that Tyree Camphor was sentenced Thursday. Smith says a jury convicted Camphor on Jan. 29.

Authorities say 22-year-old Angelique Smith, a Jackson State University student, was shot last March at the Belvedere Terrace Apartments in Jackson.

Camphor was initially charged with aggravated assault. The charges were upgraded when Smith later died in a Jackson hospital.
