CANTON, Miss. (AP) - Madison County Justice Court judge has been arrested for simple assault on a vulnerable person.

Attorney General Jim Hood says in a news release that Judge Bill Weisenberger turned himself in to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Thursday following a grand jury indictment.

Hood says the indictment alleges Weisenberger hit a vulnerable person in the head during an incident at the Canton Flea Market last May.

Weisenberger was released on a $10,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison. The charge is a felony.

Weisenberger has waived his arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.

His trial has been set for June 8.
