CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - A Maryland man has been arrested after northern Virginia authorities say he and another suspect exchange gunfire with armored truck guards during a robbery attempt.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says the men tried to rob the armored truck Thursday afternoon in a shopping center in Chantilly, Virginia.

The sheriff’s office says the men fled in a car after exchanging gunfire with the truck’s guards. They were pulled over without incident.

One of the men was suffering from gunshot wounds and was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other man, identified as 27-year-old Jarrod Williams of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was arrested and charged with robbery and weapons counts. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

Sheriff Mike Chapman lauded an alert citizen for helping track the men down.
