PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in El Dorado County are investigating after a man panning for gold found what appears to be a human skull.

The Sacramento Bee reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/1AixVZB ) that the partial skull was uncovered this week in a creek northeast of Sacramento.

Sheriff’s officials are consulting with an anthropologist about the find on the edge of the El Dorado National Forest between Georgetown and Placerville.

No other body parts have been found.
