GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - A trip to the restroom by a prisoner and his armed escort at a Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport terminal ended in a scuffle and shooting.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Friday in Terminal C. Airport spokesman David Magana (mah-GAHN’-yah) says the scuffle left the prisoner with a gunshot wound to one of his hands. The officer was not shot, but he went to the hospital for injuries from the fight.

Magana says the resulting investigation prompted the closing of the public area around the checkpoint near where the incident occurred. No gates or flight operations were affected. No one else was injured.
