RENO, Nev. (AP) - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says it has settled a race discrimination lawsuit filed against a Reno-based company.

The EEOC says it resolved the suit against Wedco Inc. for $51,000, and the company has reaffirmed its commitment to preventing discrimination and harassment.

The commission alleged an African-American employee was subjected to race discrimination and a hostile work environment in violation of federal law.

The EEOC sued the company in U.S. District Court in Reno after failing to reach a pre-litigation settlement.

Under the settlement, Wedco will provide periodic reports to the EEOC regarding its efforts to combat discrimination.

According to its website, Wedco has been in business since 1950 and offers electrical products for the mining, utility and construction markets. Its branch offices serve northern Nevada and Northern California.
