TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A 37-year-old Shannon man is in the Lee County Jail, charged with four counts of kidnapping.

Sheriff Jim Johnson tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1zA3F5N ) Richard James allegedly held his wife and three children at gunpoint for around 20 hours Tuesday and Wednesday. Johnson says he allowed them to leave the next day, but warned them not to talk to law enforcement. Instead, they called 911.

The sheriff says the SWAT team quickly surrounded the home, and James surrendered without incident.

Authorities say deputies have responded to domestic calls at the house in the past but James was never arrested. He bond is set at $200,000.

It was unclear whether James has an attorney.
