EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) - A father concerned about the whereabouts of his daughter and granddaughter entered their Detroit-area home and found them dead with stab wounds, police said Friday.

The deaths were not considered a random attack. A man who was living with the victims in Eastpointe turned himself in to police in Dearborn. No charges were immediately filed.

“It’s horrible,” said Mike Rakowski, who found the bodies Thursday night. “We’re all shocked. It’s undoubtedly the worst fear every parent has for his child.”

The victims were Monique Rakowski, 29, and 13-month-old daughter Carmon.

“We don’t know if the stab wounds are the cause of death or a contributing factor,” Lt. John Childs said.

Rakowski said his daughter had spent months caring for a grandmother and also tried to start a cleaning business. He described her as “beautiful” and “bright” but said she had made a poor choice in her relationship with the suspect.

“Maybe other people can learn that what people do makes a big difference,” Rakowski said.

Monique Rakowski had a son who was with other family members and not hurt.

“You think this only happens in stories that you see on TV and you’re just waiting for someone to say, ‘Wake up from this,’ but you can’t,” grandmother Gloria Rakowski said.
