GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - An Aug. 17 trial date has been set for the 58-year-old man accused of setting fire to a Gillette motel in an attempt to kill a woman over a drug deal.

Several people were hurt in the September fire that gutted the Rodeway Inn.

James Pearson, of Casper, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated arson. He remains in Campbell County jail.

His attorney, public defender Mitchell H. Damsky, has asked that the case be moved to a different county for trial, citing the publicity that the case as received.

The Gillette News Records reports (https://bit.ly/1Mka9j2 ) that District Judge Thomas W. Rumpke denied the request.
