PITTSBURGH (AP) - A woman has been found dead in a house fire in Pittsburgh’s East Hills area, and her husband - initially feared dead - has instead been found safe because he’s in the hospital.

Public safety officials didn’t immediately release the name of the woman whose body was found on the second floor of the home.

The fire was reported about 1:40 a.m.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler says the initial 911 call didn’t describe what was wrong, so police responded and found the home’s basement on fire. The fire spread, causing the first floor to collapse before crews could control it.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Crews were using flashlights to search for the woman’s husband before they learned he’d been hospitalized recently.
