ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque police officer has been arrested on suspicion of abusing his stepson.

New Mexico State Police say 31-year-old Skyler McClaskey and the victim’s mother, 34-year-old Jodi McClaskey, were taken into custody Saturday around 2:45 a.m.

Both have been booked into Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center for abuse of a child.

Authorities say an officer was summoned Friday to Edgewood Middle School by state child welfare workers who noticed several bruises on the victim’s body.

Police say the couple inflicted the injuries.

Albuquerque police spokeswoman Celina Espinoza says McClaskey, who has been with the department since 2006, has been relieved of duty.

Espinoza says McClaskey also had an outstanding 2014 warrant for issuing worthless checks in Santa Fe County.
