TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Bill Maher, Judd Apatow and Sinbad will be among comedians helping northern Michigan laugh its way through a frigid weekend during the Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival.

The event got underway Friday night with “Greetings from UpNorthistan,” a one-man show by Oscar winning filmmaker Michael Moore. He organized the comedy festival and also directs a summer film fest in the Lake Michigan resort town.

Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” performs Saturday night.

Real-life couple Natasha Leggero of “Modern Family” and Moshe Kasher of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will take the stage together. Also in the lineup are Michigan native Kurt Braunohler of “Bob’s Burgers” and Ted Alexandro of “Inside Amy Schumer.”

Rugged outdoor types can enjoy an outdoor Ferris wheel, skating rink, frozen mini golf and sledding.
