CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A Hawkeye man who hired workers in the country illegally to build grain bins has been sentenced to more nearly three years in federal prison.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1vtQZgj ) that 33-year-old Juan Manzano-Huerta recently received the sentence after pleading guilty to two counts.

Manzano admitted as part of his plea agreement that he illegally hired workers in 2012 and 2013 to build grain bins in Iowa and surrounding states for his company, Manzano Grain Bin Services. Manzano did not require the workers to complete employment eligibility verification forms required by law.

An investigation into Manzano began after a worker in the country illegally was injured when a grain bin being built collapsed in 2013.
