GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas woman who recently welcomed her pit bull home after the missing dog turned up in Indiana has given up the pet.

The Galveston County Daily News (https://bit.ly/1Mm4YiT ) reported Saturday that JoeAnn Navarro parted with Blue because the year-old dog was too hard to handle.

Blue was a pup when she disappeared from Navarro’s Galveston yard about eight months ago.

The 69-year-old Navarro declined comment about giving Blue to the Galveston Island Humane Society.

Society official Caroline Dorsett-Pate says Blue is a good dog but needs a very strong hand. Dorsett-Pate says a young Galveston couple has since adopted Blue.

The animal was located last month at a shelter in Kokomo, Indiana, thanks to a microchip implant. Donations that funded the dog’s return will now pay for training lessons.
