NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - A man was killed at the Rose Hill Community Center in New Castle.

New Castle County Police responded Monday afternoon to a call about a shooting and discovered the victim, who died at the scene. No one else was hurt.

Officer First Class Tracey Duffy said officers don’t believe the shooting was random.

A preliminary investigation found the victim was on the center’s lower level when someone shot him and fled on foot. Police, including officers with dogs and troopers in a Delaware State Police helicopter, searched for the gunman.

Police didn’t release the victim’s name or age, but said he appeared to be an adult.

State Rep. J.J. Johnson told WDEL-AM in Wilmington the private, nonprofit center has been an “oasis” for kids and the shooting is “very disturbing.”
