IRVINGTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are seeking a motive for the fatal shooting of a man who was killed in a liquor store that his family operates in northern New Jersey.

Essex County prosecutors say Irvington police responded to the store around 4 p.m. Sunday and found 28-year-old Amit Patel, of Edison. He had been shot at least once, and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Further details on the shooting have not been disclosed, including what type of weapon was used, but no other injuries were reported.

Officials say it’s not clear if Patel was shot during a botched robbery, since it did not appear that anything was stolen from the business.
