HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) - Two men face arson charges after they allegedly started fires in their hotel room and barricaded themselves inside.

Hasbrouck Heights police tell The Record (https://bit.ly/1AK2sOL) that 60-year Milton Hinton, of Montclair, and 53-year-old Derrick Ellis, of East Orange, also were charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Officers went to the hotel shortly before 5 a.m. Monday after someone there called 911 and said they smelled smoke coming from the room. But when the officers initially tried to enter the room, they found furniture was blocking the door.

Police eventually gained entrance and allegedly found toilet paper smoldering in the bathroom.

Hinton and Ellis were found in the room, and Ellis was taken to a hospital for treatment of an undisclosed injury. It wasn’t known if they had retained lawyers.
