ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Snow and ice on the road has closed the Blue Ridge Parkway through the Asheville corridor.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (https://avlne.ws/17htwso) the main entrances to the parkway in the Asheville area were closed Monday to vehicles.

An ungated entrance that allows access to the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center was open, as was the center. Also ungated is an entrance that allows access to the Folk Art Center, which was oepn Monday.

When gates are closed on the parkway, the public is allowed to park along the roadside, as long as cars don’t block the gate to allow for emergency vehicles to pass. People also can walk behind the gates, bike, snowshoe, run, or walk dogs.
