MIDDLESEX, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police troopers are urging motorists to slow down on the roadways, especially when they are covered with snow and ice.

Police say that in the past three days troopers from the Middlesex barracks have responded to almost three dozen motor vehicle collisions and cases in which vehicles have gone off the road.

Since Jan. 1, troopers from Middlesex have responded to approximately 219 collisions and slide-offs. In one case, a state trooper’s cruiser was hit by a tractor trailer.

Police say posted speed limits are for when roads are clear and dry. When the weather is bad, people are being urged to slow down considerably.
