OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - A murder trial is set to begin for an Alabama man charged with raping and killing a 15-year-old Southern California girl more than three decades ago.

The Ventura County (https://bit.ly/1CCdrc3 ) star reports that opening statements in the trial of 67-year-old Thomas Coalt Young are scheduled to start Tuesday.

He’s accused of sexually assaulting, beating and stabbing to death Stacy Knappenberger in 1980.

The case was remained unsolved until 2010 when Young’s DNA was matched to evidence found at the crime scene. His DNA had been collected in an unrelated out-of-state case. He was extradited from Alabama in 2012.
