AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A suspension has been reduced to a written reprimand for an Austin police officer who chased a robbery suspect outside a church while off-duty.

Police Chief Art Acevedo said Monday he lowered officer Jonathan LaBorde’s punishment after meeting with him last week.

LaBorde will receive about $2,000 in pay he didn’t receive while serving a 10-day suspension. He also has agreed to no longer appeal his suspension, which was set to go before an outside arbitrator this week.

Acevedo said LaBorde wasn’t disciplined for pursuing the suspect, but for not letting patrol officers handle the situation after they arrived.

LaBorde had been cited for intervening in an incident while off-duty and for failing to follow the department’s training and tactics.
