FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky readers have been busy borrowing from their libraries, setting a record for the number of items checked out.

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet says statistics from the state’s 119 public libraries recorded more than 30 million items checked out during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. That figure is 2 percent higher than the previous year.

The agency says the figure includes circulation of more than 2 million electronic books. The number of e-books that were checked out surpassed the number of items checked out from bookmobiles for the first time.

Kentucky’s public libraries also provided about 4,800 computers for public use. The cabinet said library visitors also make use of public library Internet access and bring their own devices to use with wireless access offered through every library system
