THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Lafourche Parish residents have two chances to clean house March 14.

Parish government will host a hazardous waste collection event, and the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program will hold its annual Bayou Lafourche Cleanup.

Both events last from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. that Saturday.

At the waste collection event, Lafourche residents can get rid of household cleaners, paint, electronic equipment, tires, used oil, batteries, compact fluorescent bulbs, acids, flammable materials and other items that can require special disposal.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1Avyxv8 ) items will be collected at the Mathews Government Complex on Louisiana Highway lma Robichaux (ROH’-bih-shoh), the Barataria program’s outreach coordinator, said the event raises awareness of marine debris and reminds participants of the importance of Bayou Lafourche.
