PACIFIC, Mo. (AP) - A Franklin County man is jailed after a five-hour standoff after he allegedly ran over his estranged wife with his car.

Sheriff Gary Toelke says a woman reported Sunday that her husband, 45-year-old James Fitzgerald, ran over in a parking lot south of Pacific. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1E1sXjI ) Fitzgerald fled after threatening to “shoot it out” with deputies.

Authorities say the man called several people and told them he was suicidal and armed with a high-powered rifle. He allegedly said he planned to shoot any deputy who came to his home.

After about five hours of negotiations, Fitzgerald surrendered. He is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. His bail was set at $75,000.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Fitzgerald had an attorney.
