WEST UNION, Ohio (AP) - A sheriff’s deputy in southern Ohio is to appear in court on a rape charge.
The Adams County Sheriff says Chief Deputy Jeff McCarty was arrested Sunday night and is due to be arraigned Tuesday.
Sheriff K.R. Rogers says McCarty resigned his position following the arrest. The sheriff says he asked the county prosecutor’s office to handle an independent investigation into the allegations.
A message seeking comment was left with McCarty’s attorney on Monday.
Rogers has been with the county sheriff’s office for about 26 years. He was promoted to chief deputy in March 2009
